Thank you for your interest in the Local & Family History Department of the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library. Although our collection’s primary focus is on Hancock County, we also have materials from many other Ohio counties as well as other states. Most of the collection is non-circulating and must be viewed within the library. To search for a particular title, please visit the library’s catalog at the top of this page.

When you call, you will be connected to an information & referral specialist who is highly trained to evaluate each individual situation, access our extensive database, and provide information on appropriate resources. Calls are confidential and service is available in Spanish.

Newspaper Index

The Hancock County Newspaper Index serves as a finding aid for locating newspaper articles of local and/or historical interest. Compiled by volunteers, it is a “work in progress” that currently indexes portions of Findlay newspapers from 1908, 1916, and 1965 to 2011. The index is searchable by keyword and subject, and provides citation information that can be used to locate complete articles.

NewsBank (Ohio's Newspapers)
Provides full electronic edition, excluding paid advertising, of the Cincinnati Post (04/01/1990-12/31/2007), the Columbus Dispatch (7/16/1985-current), the Dayton Daily News (1/1/1990-current), the Cleveland Plain Dealer (6/1/1991-current), and the Toledo Blade (1/1/1996-current). World Book Hispanica
This comprehensive Spanish-language encyclopedia includes more than 100,000 articles, more than 8,500 images and maps, and nearly 1,000 videos, animations, sounds, and interactive media.  It is designed for native Spanish speakers, bilingual students, and ESL/ELL program participants.
 
World Book Early World of Learning
Three interactive learning environments for preschoolers and children in early grades. World Book Spanish
This is part of World Book Online Reference Center that is a Spanish-Language encyclopedia called Enciclopedia Estudiantil Hallazgos. It contains 2,200 articles and more than 600 illustrations

Zinio is the world’s largest newsstand and it is now available @ your library! You can now read select library magazine subscriptions free online and on most handheld devices. All you need is your Findlay-Hancock County Public Library card number and a valid email address to get started.

BEFORE JUMPING IN, IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO READ THE INSTRUCTIONS LOCATED here. It explains that you will be creating two separate accounts using the same email account. The Zinio Reader is not currently compatible with Windows Mobile, Blackberry (or other PDA's) or reading devices such as the Sony Reader, Nooks or Kindle(original)
- although we are working now to expand the capabilities of the Zinio Reader to include more mobile devices.

Unfortunately, if you own a Nook device, your ability to use the Zinio app in the future will depend on Barnes & Noble adding the Zinio app to the "Nook Apps" store (the default configuration of the Nook Color does not allow installing
apps directly from the Android Market).
